A small but interesting real-world validation
Today the system handled a real trip scenario end-to-end.
I'm currently in Tbilisi, while the GSM endpoint remains in Israel. I placed a call from the hotel to a friend in Ra'anana, and the system handled the rest automatically: I simply dialed the number.
More interestingly, I also received an unexpected call from my insurance agent on the Israeli number.
The funny part is that I had bought travel insurance from them only three days earlier, specifically for this trip. So the agent presumably knew I was traveling, yet still called my existing Israeli number—as one naturally would.
And it worked. They had no idea where I physically was, and from their perspective nothing had changed: they called the number they already had for me.
This is probably the first real-world confirmation of what I increasingly think is the core value proposition of the project:
Your phone number stays home. Your identity keeps up.
The technology is effectively decoupling the user's cellular identity from their physical location. The caller doesn't need to install anything, know that the user is abroad, or even know that anything unusual is happening.
That's a considerably more compelling validation than another successful lab test.
There are still some ICE state-machine bugs that can occasionally cause a call to fail, so this isn't production-ready yet. But the fundamental end-to-end concept is now being used in the real world, across countries, on ordinary calls.
